I think he is lovely but is having trouble. He lies on the bottom of the tank most of the time. I can tap the side and get him to flutter to the surface where he will feed a little and then sink/flutter to the bottom again. Often though, he won't even rise to the surface. I don't see spots but don't know about discoloration - he came to me doing this behavior. Could you send me some sites to check out for problem solving. He is in a 1 gal tank with a bubbler, some rocks on the bottom and a plastic plant. I would like to help him but don't know how! Thank you. |

I am afraid to feed them worms because they seem to get disease much easiier such as fungas What do you feed your fishes.My father said that before in Vietnam,the fighters they sold were imported from Thailand. He said that when you breed the thai male fighter with a wild caught female fighter, the baby fish would turn out to be very aggressive even though they have the appearance of a wild betta. Do you beleive that this could be true. By the way what is your favourite color betta when using for fighting. I prefer the dark fighters with black pelvic fins with no red at all on the entire fish. Are these fishes good fighters. I had two before and they were very tough. Just to let you know, I am if Chinese[Chiu Chow] background. A couple of buddies of mine and my self love bettas and we want start mating betta's. One of my friends mated some betta and only like half of them survived is that normal to have only have live? or should most of them survive? I myself have two bettas one snake type male and a female. My two bettas are the same exact color dark blue body with red tails and blue streaks inside the tails with black outline of the tails. When I was at my local aquarium the other day, I saw a very dark blue fighter and so I decided to buy it. When I brought it home it seemed to be very aggressive. The next day I saw a small white dot on it's body and so I tried to remove with a little stick. It suddenly went crazy and got all pale. I then put it against another male fighter and it was very scared. The second day Iput it against a female. It went dark and wanted to attack. I then removed the female and replaced it with a male. It showed off for about two minutes and then it got scared again. Now on it does not want to fight. What could be the problem. Iwant to try your earthpot trick but it is very hard to find and expensive in Australia. What do you suggest I use as a substitute. There is another thing. Ivisited another aquarium and I bought two more short fins with the help of my father. He chose me a very large fighter. When I got home I realised that it was an old fish. It has dark green scales and red+green fins. Do you think that older fishes fight ok because of their large size. I also saw a few very weird snake head fighters. I did not buy them because their bodies were very pale and they were very very skinny and thin. Alot thinner than the one in your picture. They were also very very long. Do you suggest I buy them? Hopefully you could one day show us a few more pictures of snakeheads in your gallery and also one of your king fighters. I am sure everybody would be interested in seeing them. When you use a fish to fight, What color fighter do you prefer. The other day, my father told me that in Vietnam they use very large fighters when fighting. While my friend told me that in Cambodia, they like using small fighters. He laughed at the size of my fish. I told him that the Thai people use this size fish. He claimed that the Thai people don't know how to fight fish. I laughed at him.Have you ever seen a fighter from Vietnam or cambodia? If you , what characteristics do they have? Do they fight good and have good colour? Do you allow foreign tourists to visit your fish farm. If you do, maybe one day I will make a visit when I go to Thailand. Would you be able to explain to me why the quality of plakat morh from Thailand have been quite poor lately. The aquarium say they import direct from Thailand. When it is summer in Australia, I collect plakat morh, what we know here as short fin fighters.The local aquarium imports its stocks from thailand. What I have noticed over the past few years is that the quality of the fighters have become quite poor'no matter where I buy from.The breeders must obviously have problem meeting demand for stock and so I guess they just breed anything witout notice of quality. I know you are not the type of breeder that does this.Nowdays it is very hard to find a good fish in Australia as they all seem to be surplus or unwanted fishes of low standard. Overall I believe that your page is the best betta page on the net and I thank you for that. Please keep up the good work. |

It has a problem with one of it's gills, it won't "flare", and another problem is that the gill that does "flare" has a white spot on it. Is something wrong? Please help. When I breed my bettas, do I need a sponge filter and everthing else? I added u in my ICQ so I could get advice from you because u seem to have ALOT of experience. Recently, he became very sickly and would try to get under rocks in the bowl. He was very still and had trouble breathing. Thanks to your web site, we figured out that his water was too cold. We placed a light next to his bowl, and within an hour he became much more lively and could eat and breath easily. Hopefully, his beautiful color will return soon. It is funny that we have become so attached to a fish. Thank you very much for your help! |

I have a single male that I got about two weeks ago. Up until a couple of days ago, he was dark red with shiny blue-green sides and had a very dark face. He was also very active.
